About Nicky

About Annie

Nicky Panagiotou

Take Control is a private business. Prior to Nicky training as a hypnotherapist and opening up her own practice she was a teacher for 25 years. During her teaching profession she taught disengaged teenagers who experienced high anxiety, behavioural problems, low self-esteem and learning difficulties. She also taught adults with special needs who all had different issues. The experience she gained in this field has led her to where she is today. She recognises that there is a high need of expertise required not only for the youth but also for adults who experience these feelings at some stage in their life. She believes that all individuals, whether children, teenagers, parents and adults in general, require support to combat issues enveloping them and their families and consuming their lives.

Nicky was widowed in her early 40’s . She has two children. Her younger daughter, who has an intellectual disability, was 11 when she lost her father. Her daughter’s behaviour then changed dramatically: she was constantly angry, anxious, aggressive and frustrated. Nicky tried very hard with different strategies at home, co-operating with other professionals and with her teachers but things were not shifting, in fact, actually getting worse. Nicky had no other solutions until a friend recommended seeing a hypnotherapist. Nicky, like many people, felt unsure, fearing that her daughter would do things out of her control. After some research, Nicky took her daughter to a hypnotherapist. Definite change in daughter became obvious after only three sessions and she hasn’t looked back since. He daughter is much calmer within herself and expresses what she’s feeling when not happy with a situation. This helped her not only within herself but at home and at school. She focusses better and is more in control of her emotions.

The loss of Nicky’s husband and raising the children as a sole parent was difficult. The turmoil and grief of losing her husband and the life she’d once had as well as the challenge and responsibility of raising two young daughters on her own had a dramatic impact on Nicky. Her health declined and she lost focus of her future. She was to determined to make a change for the sake of her family so she did what she knew had worked for her daughter. She sought help from a hypnotherapist. This assisted in making positive shifts in her life. It also led to the decision to study and further her expertise not just to heal herself but also to help others heal themselves. Using her own suffering and personal experience she brings compassion and understanding to her work with others.
She studied at the Academy of Hypnotic Science (Government Accredited Diploma of Hypnotherapy 10177NAT). This experience was profound and has given her a broad understanding of and compassion for others. Given her personal experience knowledge and professionalism Nicky can help empower you to create a more harmonious future.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnosis is a procedure where a qualified therapist suggests and assists a client through guided daydreaming. The client experiences changes in sensations, perception, thoughts and behaviours. Hypnosis works on the subconscious mind to unlock your potential and help you with guidance to achieve your goals. It is a non-invasive therapy which teaches you positive thought patterns.
Hypnotherapy is not a state of deep sleep but rather one of altered consciousness. They hypnotic state is like meditation, where the body is relaxed but the mind has a heightened awareness and the individual is in total control.
You go into this state on a regular basis and automatically, for example when you are driving a route you know so well and after 5 to 10 minutes you cannot remember going past a certain road or landmark.

Simply put, you were daydreaming but part of you has been changing lanes, shifting gears and driving. This part of you is your subconscious and it was fully focussed on the task at hand, even though you conscious was not paying attention. This is also a common occurrence with children. Standing in front of an oval, seemingly oblivious to the world, but with full peripheral vision as they take in everything, absorbing and learning.

Hypnotherapy cannot be used to control someone else’s mind or their actions. There is a general feeling of wellbeing when in therapy, an ability to recall past events and an acceptance of new ideas that are not in conflict with personal values.

While you are in hypnosis:

  • you are fully aware of where you are
  • you hear everything going on around you
  • you are in control of your own hypnotic experience
  • you still have your thoughts
  • you will remember everything
  • You have heightened focus and concentration

How can hypnotherapy help?

Hypnotherapy can help change attitudes, which is the key to changing behaviour. With hypnotherapy, a person is empowered with guidance and made independent enough to find resolutions to their own problems in a very compassionate, nurturing and non-invasive manner. It does not include diagnosing and prescribing as this is the domain of other professionals. The primary focus of hypnotherapy itself is self-healing and self-change. It is the hypnotherapist’s job to assist the individual to achieve those natural states of mind where the healing and change can best happen.
Hypnosis has been proven to have assisted people in many areas. It invites you to go inside yourself and focus on what’s right for you, recognise and use it in new ways that not only makes you feel better but be better. It has been an effective tool in treating people in many areas.
